Tradition links it with patience, a liking for comfort, loyalty to what is familiar and a resistance to being hurried. Its difficulty is stubbornness once a position is taken.
Taurus is ruled by Venus. In a birth chart, the sign tells you where a planet sits, and the lord of the sign shows where that planet's influence travels. See the page on the lagna for how a sign becomes a house.
Earth and fixed
Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) are read as practical and patient. They are the signs of material things, craft and steady work, and the texts link them with reliability and with a tendency to resist change.
Fixed signs (sthira) hold things steady. They fall in the middle of each season and are read as persistent, loyal and slow to change.
Venus also rules Libra, so the two signs share a lord in a chart. Venus is exalted in Pisces (27°) and debilitated in Virgo (27°).
