Tradition links it with fairness, diplomacy, taste and a wish for harmony, and with difficulty making a choice when the sides are even.
Libra is ruled by Venus. In a birth chart, the sign tells you where a planet sits, and the lord of the sign shows where that planet's influence travels. See the page on the lagna for how a sign becomes a house.
Air and movable
Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are read as mental and social. They are the signs of ideas, exchange and relationships, and the texts link them with fairness and quick thinking, and with a tendency to stay in the head.
Movable signs (chara) begin things. They fall at the start of each season and are read as active, initiating and restless.
Venus also rules Taurus, so the two signs share a lord in a chart. Venus is exalted in Pisces (27°) and debilitated in Virgo (27°).
