Panchang
The five-part Hindu almanac of a day.
Panchang means five limbs. For any moment and place it gives the tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (the Moon's star), yoga and karana. Sunrise and sunset, and the daily periods such as Rahu Kalam, are worked out for the place as well.
Almost everything in a panchang comes from only two quantities: the longitude of the Sun and the longitude of the Moon, measured on the sidereal zodiac. That is why it can be computed exactly for any date, and why two places on the same day can differ in the vara and the timing of the day's limbs.
On the home page the panchang panel shows the five limbs for the moment and place you choose.
